Cibus 3.0 is the first synthetic biology company in Central America. Born in Costa Rica, the purpose of this company is to transform the whey, the residue of the dairy industry, into different products, mainly biodiesel.

It started as an academic project that participated in the International Genetic Engineering Machines (iGEM) competition, the most important in synthetic biology in the world, held in Boston, USA. Later, they successfully participated in events such as Yo Emprendedor in Costa Rica and Cleantech Open in Silicon Valley. Founded officially as a company by 4 biotechnologists and a financial analyst, they joined the Icaro investment group two years ago to accelerate the generation of a bacterial platform capable of generating different products from agricultural waste.
